American hot fashion reality show requires players to design 3D printed clothing

"Project Runway" is a popular reality show about fashion design in the United States. In the latest issue of Project Runway, which aired on October 15, 2015, contestants were asked to create fashion works that could be made at home using 3D Systems' latest Fabrice 3D printing fabric application kit and Cube 3D printer. And finally got amazing results.

Some friends may remember that last month, Tiangongshe reported on the new Fabricate application from 3D Systems. 3DS describes it as a new field, aiming at the current status of designers limiting 3D printing to 3D printing materials themselves. Encourage 3D designers to use a wider range of materials at home to create 3D printed apparel that can be worn everyday, such as combining 3D printed patterns or decorations with traditional soft fabrics. Users of Cube 3D printers only need to download and print out the Fabricate-based clothing accessories from the Internet, and then glue them onto some special fabrics to sew them onto any ordinary clothes.

For the 14 contestants of this season's Project Runway, the amiable host Tim Gunn asked them to take inspiration from a bridge in New York City to create an architectural style, and must blend 3D printed Fabrice fabrics. Go in. Of course, some of the 14 players are familiar with 3D printers, and some have never heard of this concept before, but they have bravely accepted this challenge with their passion, imagination and superb design skills. Each contestant will be accompanied by a 3D modeler from 3D Systems to help them convert their 2D design sketches into printable digital files and then print them out using the Cube 3D printer.

In the end, the contestants handed over a black sexy dress decorated with many 3D printed "X" shaped ornaments, as well as the award-winning 3D printed applique avant-garde inspired by the red brick and crocodile skin texture on the bridge. Wait. The winner took away a Cube 3D printer and a set of Fabrice application suites.

In order to make it easy for the average consumer to feel the use of 3D printed jewelry on their own clothing, the design and corresponding STL files of the Project Runway players have been placed in the 3DS Cubify online store. Anyone can download them for $29.99 and print them out on their own clothing using their own 3D printer.

It's worth noting that this is not the first time Project Runway has been involved in 3D printed fashion. In the 12th season, the deaf-mute Justin LeBlanc intensified his design of the "Soundwave" theme with 3D printed belts and distribution, which deeply impressed the judges. And 3D Systems hopes to showcase the new possibilities of 3D printing in the field of clothing through cooperation with Project Runway, and promote 3D printing garments to enter everyone's wardrobe from the T-shaped table.
